My passion for numbers  began decades ago as an avid Atlantic Coast Conference basketball fan.  Before the rise of Excel, I would keep stats of my favorite players by hand in a spiral notebook.  As the years passed rebounds, steals and assists were replaced with volatility, standard deviation and return percentages.  I realized the investment industry was where I wanted to be, and in 2004 accepted a position with a well-known regional brokerage firm in Richmond, VA.

Through various experiences I learned how the industry worked and realized my clients would be better served if I started my own firm.  Therefore, I embarked on a new journey in 2011 by establishing Bostic Financial.  After a few years, it was clear something was still missing.  In 2015, I was fortunate to meet Ryan Harris and as fate would have it we seemed to provide the solution to what the other was in search of.  So in February of 2016, we combined forces to start ClearView Financial, LLC.

Every day, I am thankful for having formed ClearView with Ryan. With a partner that shares the same values and vision as I do, I have no doubt ClearView Financial will continue to grow and make a real difference to our clients. Outside of work, my wife, Lindsey, and I enjoy spending time with our children, Madison and Marshall. When not keeping up with the kids, which is rare, I enjoy cooking, golf and of course keeping up with ACC basketball stats.

Is there a destination you've wanted to visit but never have?
Yes, Mechanicsville, VA.  Just kidding.  I've always been fond of Bora Bora and hope to get there one day.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?
That's simple - at home.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?
That's a tough one because I enjoy both.  However, if forced to pick one I would go with the beach.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?
Without a caveat not to wish for this, obviously more wishes.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?
Don't change a thing.  You end up with a beautiful wife, great kids and a business you enjoy.

After a successful career in the IT Staffing industry, I felt there was something missing in my professional life.  While I still enjoyed the work, my passion for the job was decreasing.  I realized my interests skewed more towards each candidates career path and the decisions they made to get there rather than the placement itself.  I cared more about helping them plan for the future by understanding where they had been.  Therefore, I decided to embark on a career in the financial services industry and assist people with financial planning.

After nearly five years at a large financial institution, I met my partner Kevin Bostic.  We both had the same passion for helping the client and worked diligently to help them avoid treacherous pitfalls that plague the industry.  We realized that by working together, we were able to compliment each others skill set and thus decided to join forces at ClearView Financial, LLC.

As a proponent of placing the client's interests first, I decided to attain the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation in 2018.

I am a Richmond, VA native and avid Hokie!  I graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business.  I recently moved into a 1960 style rancher near St. Mary's Hospital, and when not helping clients am spending most of my spare time renovating the home.  I have two beautiful children (son and daughter) who mean the world to me.  Outside of work and home, I spend time playing tennis at the Westwood Club and serve on the board of IT4Causes (a local non-profit) as well as The Daily Planet Health Services.

Is there a destination you've wanted to visit but never have?
England.  I am 25% English from my father's side and have always wanted to visit.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?
Either at home with my family, or at the Westwood Club playing tennis.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?
While I love the beach, I have pale skin.  Therefore I have to choose the mountains.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?
Great health for my loved ones and friends, the mega millions winning numbers, and a cure for balding.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?
Pursue a career in financial services immediately.

We'll Help You Stay The Course.

We offer a robust collection of services and are always working to expand our offerings.  We feel it is our duty to continuously improve our business in order to provide you with the knowledge and resources to successfully meet your goals and objectives.

ClearView Financial, LLC is a private firm which allows us the ability to customize plans to the uniqueness of our client.  Logistically we limit the number of clients we work with so we may familiarize ourselves with each person.  This allows us to attain a better understanding of their situation and therefore provide more effective solutions.  At many larger institutions, clients are lost in the shuffle and become "just a number" fitting into a one-size-fits all process.

When developing a plan, we analyze many aspects including but not limited to the following factors:

  • Cash Flow
  • Expenditures
  • Mortgage and Real Estate
  • Savings (retirement, college, etc.)
  • Tax Strategies
  • Investment Strategies
  • Estate and Legacy Planning
  • Long and Short Term Insurance Needs

ClearView Financial, LLC established their investment process by combining investment theory (academia), investment application (practitioner), and most importantly behavioral finance.  We adhere to Da Vinci's claim that "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."  Many investment managers complicate the investment process in an attempt to "market" their product under the guise of the illusion of sophistication.    Complexity is not necessarily sophisticated - it's just complex.

Our firm attempts to measure risk in absolute terms, not relative terms.  We do not ask our clients how much money they can lose in relation to the "market" or a given index.

When recommending an investment strategy, we consider many factors including the following:

  • Goals and Objectives
  • Time Horizon
  • Risk Tolerance
  • Identify Portfolio Restrictions
  • Identify Anticipated Withdrawals and Liquidity Needs
  • Specify Criteria for Evaluating Performance
  • Taxation

Tax Services

As financial advisors, the decisions we make may have an impact on our client's tax situation. Therefore we prudently review and prepare tax strategies throughout the year, not just in April.

Insurance Solutions

As a fiduciary, we act in the best interest of clients.  We are a better option to conduct an insurance review and make recommendations than an agent hoping for a sale.

Higher Education Funding

While we hope college tuition will some day halt it's rapid rate of inflation, we understand the importance of properly saving for the costs of higher education and provide analysis regularly.
